Sitebuilding Tips and How-To's

Sitebuilding

me sitebuilding When I decided to start my own website, I found I was a middle aged woman that didn’t know where to begin. Sitebuilding isn't exactly an inborn talent. I had very limited computer skills and, as I was soon to find out, almost NO knowledge of the workings of the internet. There seems to be a lot of us 40-somethings-and-up that just need a little extra help catching up. typewriter before sitebuilding days If “typing class” actually consisted of using a typewriter, then this article is for you. I don’t like the “computer for dummies” type of terms. I prefer, “Computer for Dunno-it-yets”!

I’ve tried various direct sales companies which were great companies, but health reasons got in the way of planning parties to have, and I never knew if I would be up to it on that particular day or evening. I decided an online business was my best option.

sitebuilding help As I found different options for businesses online, I began to realize that the biggest problem wasn't the sitebuilding, it was getting the information to people. The affiliate companies generally would give you a website, but not a lot of detail of how to really get it to the masses. I began to obsess about it, wondering how it all worked. You have a “product”, how do you get the consumer to “pick it up” and look at it?

Sitebuilding advice

As I learned more and more from the Site Build It! process about sitebuilding, I realized that I was going to need Content...and lots of it. I started scouring the internet for free and paid sites offering articles to add depth to my site. (The Search It! area of SBI! comes in very handy, by the way!)

I was very excited when I came upon All Mom Content For a low monthly price you get quality articles, recipes, product reviews and an affiliate program to make back your money (and then some!) The articles are free to change to your liking and are not full of spelling errors like so many of the free articles. (If you have to spend all the time correcting the articles, you might as well write them yourself!) It is an awesome way to fill in with quality content while you concentrate on writing some of your own!

Of course writing your own articles is the best way to make the content your own. It gives your website it’s own identity, it’s own personality. But wait! There’s more! With writing your own articles, you can submit them to article directories to be given away for free. Sound crazy? Free articles always have to be used with the author’s info intact (that’s you!). What a great way to get free advertising for your website. See this article for a full explanation on the process (with the author’s byline intact, of course!)

Images are important to me and, again, I am thrilled with the companies I have found. I like to find good quality free sites that don't give you the run around with ads.

Clip Art Warehouse is one of my favorites. It has unusual clip art that make me laugh (and I hope you too!) And, what makes me smile even more is that they’re FREE!

Graphics By Gran Gran has absolutely adorable graphics. I have just found this site and plan on using it a lot more.

InternetClipArt.com, ChristiaNet.com, FreeGraphics.org, Artvex.com, HassleFreeClipArt.com and 100000FreeClipArts.com have been very useful as well. They are great for filler clip art, and again....FREE!

Webweaver Free Clip Art offers great clip art as well as website tutorials. BraveNet.com and aaahtml.com also have great tutorials to help newbies.

BraveNet.com also has an affiliate site to make money too!
